Course Information
This online course will provide you with all the necessary up-to-date skills needed to become an Exercise to Music Instructor. The qualification is recognised worldwide and will enable you to work as an Aerobics/Exercise to Music Instructor with any leading fitness provider. This course will also support you in running your own Aerobics/Exercise to Music classes as a freelance instructor.

Entry Requirements
It is recommended that all learners have at least 20 hours practical experience of Exercise to Music classes or equivalent before they start the course.

Learners should have an active interest in the Sports and Leisure Industry, be focused on a career as a fitness professional and have a range of GCSEs at Grade C and above to include GCSE PE/a First Diploma at Merit Level or above/an Intermediate GNVQ at Distinction level or equivalent. Learners who have previously achieved the Certificate in Fitness Instruction Gym Level 2 will only need to complete the practical phase of the course at a reduced cost – please contact our booking team for further information.

Course Content
During the course you will study and be assessed in:

Anatomy and physiology including:
- the heart and circulatory system
- the respiratory system
- structure and function of the skeleton
- musculoskeletal system
- postural and core stability
- the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise
How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
How to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
The skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a group exercise to music session with apparently healthy adults - both individuals and groups. This may include young people in the 14-16 age range, provided they are part of a larger adult group. Client groups also covered are older adults, ante and postnatal clients and disabled clients, provided the relevant contraindications and key safety guidelines are observed
   
Assessment
The course is assessed through a portfolio of evidence to include:
Two multiple-choice theory exams
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Exercise and Fitness knowledge
Gym-based programme for an individual client
Gym-based practical session
There are two worksheets that need to be completed:
• Health and Safety in the Workplace
• Knowing How to Support Your Client
   
E-Learning Structure
You will be able to study at your own pace at times to suit you and you will have the support from an online tutor. You will complete all the theory-based units using a media-rich interactive package, accessible online anytime and anywhere. Your tutor will be on hand to support you along the way.

Once you have completed the online units you will be required to attend two (1 day intensive) practical courses to develop the necessary skills to become a Fitness Instructor. Your assessments for the course will take place on these practical days.

Full details on the practical days will be discussed with you by your tutor, and when you feel confident to book for your training and assessment you will have a selection of dates to choose from. There is no extra cost for these days and full support will be given from the booking team to ensure you are booked on the right course.

Minimum system requirements
A PC running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 with at least 512MB RAM or anything from the past three years should be fine. You will need your screen/monitor resolution set to 1024x768 or preferably 1280x1024.

You will also need the latest Adobe Flash player/plug-in. Beware that you may need "administration rights" to install or enable this, especially if this is a public, shared or work PC. http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/flashplayer/

Which browsers do you support?
Internet Explorer version 7 or version 8. Some people have success using Google Chrome, Safari or Mozilla Firefox but we can only guarantee the experience with Internet Explorer.
